Our mission is simple: give every dog a chance to find its FurEver home.
Home FurEver is a non-profit, no-kill, foster based canine rescue that takes in all dog breeds. The group was officially started in 2003 and has rescued, rehabilitated, and re-homed over 7,000 dogs and puppies. We do not discriminate against any dog or any breed; we give everyone a chance to live a normal healthy life.
Our dogs primarily come from the rough streets of Detroit.
We find some as strays running the streets or in abandoned houses or automobiles. Some of the dogs we rescue come to us in very poor health. Other groups may humanely euthanize such dogs, but for us that’s an absolute last resort. Our dedicated vets and volunteers do everything they can to save our dogs so each one can start a new life with a loving family. We also periodically take in dogs from kill shelters, other rescues and owner surrenders.
All of our financial support for food and veterinary care comes from generous donations and fundraising. At any given time, we can have up to 200 dogs in foster care. That makes us one of the largest foster based rescues in the metro Detroit area. That also means we are always in need of more financial support and in-kind donations, more volunteers and more foster parents.
WHAT DO WE DO?
- We provide temporary foster homes for animals until a suitable ‘furever home’ can be found.
- We provide animal care instruction to children and adults in order to facilitate the proper care and treatment of animals.
- From time to time, we develop specialized programs aimed at increasing awareness of animal cruelty issues and raise funds to promote those programs.
- We interact with the community, other rescue groups, and governmental officials to pursue an agenda of legal reform geared toward the safety and preservation of all animal life, and to ensure that those who act to the detriment of animals are punished accordingly.
